Project OverviewThe Big 6 project expands the corridor from four main lanes to six (three in each direction), reconfigures auxiliary lanes, and introduces collector-distributor lanes at key locations to support safer, more efficient merging. Interchanges are being upgraded to improve traffic flow, and new shared-use paths are being added to accommodate bicycles and pedestrians.
Construction began on December 1, 2025, following the project being let in March 2025.
Precast Scope
Summit Precast was awarded the traffic barrier scope, producing:
127,830 LF of 42″ single slope concrete barrier (SSCB)
126,360 LF of low-profile concrete traffic barrier (LP CTB)
That’s roughly 48 miles of concrete barrier, an essential component of safer traffic control and work-zone protection throughout the corridor improvements.
Barrier types noted in submission:
127,830 LF SSCB TY1 R-Connection
126,360 LF LPCTB TY1 & TY2 JJ-Hook Connection
Innovation highlight: JJ-Hook connectionFor this project, Summit Precast incorporated a new JJ-Hook connection into the low-profile traffic barrier. The connection improves barrier safety and increases on-site installation efficiency by reducing setting time.
